GARDENERS CORNER:
Our resident landscape gardener, John Hitchin, is here each week to give you some handy gardening tips.
In a recent article in this column advice was given to people looking for gardeners on some signs to indicate their reliability and competence as a tradesman. What signs should a gardener/builder/plumber or any type of tradesman look for to determine the reliability of a person as a customer, ie. will they pay, take your advice or end up telling you how to do everything?

One give away in Ibiza is when meeting with a potential client who makes declarations of there own self importance. "I am the CEO. of several pan European corporations or "I recently sold my company which I built up from nothing for squillions".

After dealing with this type of person for a while it becomes clear that they listen to absolutely nothing you say usually because they are not very confident in dealing with normal people or are just plain thick.

It is surprising the number of times that this type of person will also claim to have a list of qualifications as long as their arm, but have the inability to use a spell check when sending an email.

After time it becomes evident that the self announcers have had some inheritance left to them by a relative and have decided to come to Ibiza to reinvent themselves.

Then there are the customers who stand over your shoulder saying "is it not better to do it that way" or "are you sure you know how to do this" and in the worse case scenario get a chum to stand there instead.

An even worse case of idiot sorry we mean client are the ones who send a list of instructions like "just make sure you dig the holes big enough for the roots of a plant", or "just make sure you plant the plants properly", or even "just make sure you buy enough irrigation pipe" "just make sure etc etc etc".

It is advisable to slip away from this type of client before you get in too deep with them, as it is normal that they are aghast at bills presented as they think that all your time that has been wasted should be for free.
